After attempting to acquire Andy Murray’s former coach Ivan Lendl, Tomas Berdych went after the next best option: Murray’s hitting partner and former coach Dani Vallverdu.

Berdych, who had been working with Tomas Krupa since 2009, revealed that he parted ways with the coach on his official Facebook page.

“Dear fans and friends …my new coach for next year will be Danny Vallverdu http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Vallverdu and Azuz Simcich…thank you to Tomas Krupa and David Vydra for great time and fantastic work…tb”

He later explained the reasons as to why he hired Daniel.

“When I finish, I want to be able to say I tried everything and in that sense I was looking to make the decision to change my team… the news came up that Dani was available and it helped in all my decisions. I approached him and it all started,” Berdych told the ATP website. “The thing I like most about Dani is that he’s a fresh new guy who’s going to come and work with me. He’s going to see my tennis with different eyes, which is very important because I think when you’ve spent a long time with a certain team, you can kind of lose the wider angle.”

Several weeks ago, it was reported that Murray’s coaching staff, mainly Vallverdu and Green were both unhappy about Mauresmo’s sudden appointment and the lack of input they provided in the decision. The news that they have both left the team can be seen as a reaffirmation of Murray’s commitment to his new coach.

Vallverdu, who joined forces with Murray in 2010 and remained a part of the team while Scot worked with Ivan Lendl, parted ways with the two-time Grand Slam champion several weeks ago.

“We sat down at the end of the season and decided that a change would be best for all of us,” Murray said in a statement. “My off season training and Australian Open preparations have already begun and I am very excited for the new year. I thank Jez and Dani for all their hard work over the years and wish them the best for the future.”

It was also announced by The Telegraph that Muray’s long-time fitness trainer Jez Green was now working with 17-year-old Alexander Zverev.
