After dispatching two opponents in dominant fashion to kickstart his campaign at the All England Club, 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer will now cross paths with a younger Aussie in his the second round. He is scheduled face Sam Groth for the second time on the professional tour to determine who will advance to the fourth round of the tournament. Federer leads the head-to-head series 1-0 following a win at last year’s US Open.

The world No. 2 reached the third round at the Wimbledon Championships following a straight sets win against Sam Querrey on Thursday afternoon. On one of he hottest days in Wimbledon history, Federer ousted the American 6-4, 6-2, 6-2 with some dazzling shots that only he could have completed.

“Today was definitely a good day,” said Federer. “I sort of returned well. I definitely think I can serve a little bit better. I didn’t check my match stats, but I feel like things are definitely good out there. I had a good 10 minutes at the end of the first set. I think that was the key moment to go from 4-all to 6-4, 2-0. That was the moment that I took control of the match really.

“Querrey can definitely be dangerous. He’s got a big game, especially on the grass. He was going for his shots today. It was important today to move well and be clear in the important moments. I felt like I was. It was a good match.”

Federer will next come up against Sam Groth, who worked his way past fellow countryman James Duckworth 7-5, 6-4, 7-6(6).

This marks the second time that Federer and Groth will meet on the professional tour and will certainly be a match-up that heavily favours the former champion. The 17-time Grand Slam winner holds a 1-0 lead against the Australian and will look to maintain that unblemished record en route to the fourth round at SW19.
