Richard Gasquet may have been playing his first tournament since Indian Wells following a back injury, but that did not stop him from completing a campaign to lift the Millennium Estoril Open title.

Gasquet, who was up against rising Aussie star Nick Kyrgios in the final, extended his ATP World Tour final record to an even 12-12 with the victory. He defeated Kyrgios 6-3, 6-2 to deny the Aussie his first title on the professional circuit.

The contest lasted a total of 64 minutes on court. The Frenchman struck four aces, won 94% of his first service points and saved all three of the break points he faced en route to the straight sets victory. Kyrgios was unable to find consistency in his first serves or in his return shots, which eventually cost him three decisive break points in the match.

According to the ATP World Tour, Gasquet is now in second place in Open Era titles list among Frenchmen, alongside Gilles Simon with 12. Yannick Noah in first with 23 titles. Kyrgios, on the other hand, is trying to become the first Aussie player to win a title on the ATP World Tour since Bernard Tomic in 2013.

Had Kyrgios won his first ATP title on Sunday, he would have joined Jiri Vesely, Jack Soc and Victor Estrella Burgos as first time champions on the tour in 2015.
