The doubles field for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global is now set after events in Beijing saw the final four qualifying berths decided on Wednesday.

Defeat for Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova in the Chinese capital confirmed that Timea Babos and Yaroslava Shvedova, Chan Hao-Ching and Chan Yung-Jan, Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka, and Julia Goerges and Karolina Pliskova will all be heading to Singapore for the season finale.

The four join earlier qualifiers Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic, Martina Hingis and Mirza, Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina, and Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova in the eight-team knockout draw.

There is a wealth of experience amongst the final batch of qualifiers, with only Goerges and Pliskova making their Singapore debut. Two-time major winners Hlavackova and Hradecka were runners-up at the Finals in 2012, before reaching the semifinals on their return in 2015. The Chan sisters were also semifinalists 12 months ago, while Babos and Shvedova, have also qualified in the past, albeit with other partners.

ZHUHAI, China – After an action-filled week at the Dongfeng Motor Wuhan Open, the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai welcomes a new face into the leaderboard: Petra Kvitova.

Kvitova’s big win in Wuhan puts her at the No.12 spot on the WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai leaderboard, but she’s not the only big name to join the fray. Madison Keys and Carla Suárez Navarro switched spots, making the Spaniard the top seed for the season-ending event.

Meanwhile, only a handful of points separate the next two players in contention, Svetlana Kuznetsova and Johanna Konta, so a good result at this week’s China Open could create more major shifts.

The year’s final tournament will take place in Zhuhai and will run from November 1 to 6. Like last year, the singles draw will feature 11 of the top ranked players and one wildcard, with the winner collecting 700 rankings points.

BEIJING, China – The resurgent Caroline Wozniacki needed just an hour and fifteen minutes to upset No.13 seed Roberta Vinci in straight sets for a spot in the round of 16 at the China Open.

Continuing on from the recent success that has seen Wozniacki rise from No.74 to No.22 in the world, the Dane took to the court against Vinci on the back of a late season resurgence, having won 13 of her last 15 matches.

She drew first blood against the Italian in the fourth game, targeting Italian’s backhand and taking advantage of the short balls to draw a spate of errors before a volley into the net gave her the break. An untimely double fault in the next game handed Vinci the break right back, but Wozniacki wrestled the decisive break in reply for a 4-2 lead. She needed three set points but served out the opening set, 6-3.

Wozniacki was more straightforward in the second, bracketing the set with a break in the first and penultimate games, saving three set points in the fifth game to close out the match.

The 2010 champion Wozniacki was firmly in control throughout, dropping serve just once in the 6-3, 6-2 victory against Vinci. Up next she’ll meet a familiar foe, facing Agnieszka Radwanska for the third time in as many weeks.

As SAP Behind The Numbers revealed earlier in the season, historically both Radwanska and Wozniacki flourish in Asia post-US Open. They lead the tour in most Asian Swing match wins since 2011 and they’ve proved it in their growing 2016 rivalry, having just booked their third clash in as many weeks.

They first crossed paths this year in Tokyo at the Toray Pan Pacific Open, where Wozniacki defeated Radwanska in the semifinals en route to the title, but the Pole got her revenge a week later in Wuhan.

WEDNESDAY IN BEIJING: Madison Keys (RTS #8) plays Svetlana Kuznetsova (RTS #10) and Garbiñe Muguruza (RTS #6) will play Petra Kvitova (RTS #12) in what could be a decisive day on the Road to Singapore leaderboard. Who will hit the speed bumps? Who will stay on track?

Here is a player-by-player breakdown of who can qualify this week…

MUGURUZA: In its simplest form, Muguruza needs to win at least one more match. She can qualify for the BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore presented by SC Global by reaching the quarterfinals AND Kuznetsova and Konta not reaching the semifinals. She can also secure qualification by advancing to the semifinals this week, regardless of other results.

KEYS: Keys can qualify by reaching the final (she is in the same half as Kuznetsova and Kvitova) and if Konta does not reach quarterfinals. She can secure qualification regardless, if she can win the title.

KUZNETSOVA: Kuznetsova qualifies for the WTA Finals by winning the title

Additionally, Kvitova will need to reach the Beijing final to become part of the mix of being an alternate in Singapore. She is also entered into Luxembourg.
