Alexandr Dolgopolov has been a dominant force this week at the Argentina Open and the Ukrainian continued his strong form on Saturday, blasting past Pablo Carreno Busta 7-5, 6-2 to reach the final.

Dolgopolov has not relinquished a set in advancing to his seventh ATP World Tour final and first on the clay of Buenos Aires. He will contest his first title match in three years, since falling to Rafael Nadal in Rio de Janeiro in 2014, against either top seed Kei Nishikori or home hope Carlos Berlocq.

The 28 year old needed just 69 minutes to dispatch fourth seed Carreno Busta on a sunny afternoon on Court Guillermo Vilas. Dolgopolov settled down after being broken to love to open the match, breaking back immediately and turning aside the Spaniard’s four other chances in the encounter.

Dolgopolov’s successful week comes at an opportune time, having dropped 10 of 11 matches entering Buenos Aires. The World No. 66 will look to complete his resurgent run against either Nishikori or Berlocq in Sunday’s final.

Defeat for Carreno Busta, meanwhile, ends an eight-year run of Spaniards reaching the Buenos Aires final. The 25 year old was bidding to join Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Nicolas Almagro, Juan Carlos Ferrero and Tommy Robredo in that span.

Reigning Doubles Champs Survive
Defending champions Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah were made to work to book a return trip to the Buenos Aires final. The Colombian power stepped up with their backs against the wall, rallying past Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini 4-6, 7-6(0), 10-3 in Saturday’s semis.

Bolelli and Fognini held a match point while serving for a spot in the final at 6-4, 6-5, but Cabal and Farah reeled off eight straight points to force a Match Tie-break and eventually advanced after one hour and 50 minutes. The top seeds will appear in their 18th ATP World Tour final together, facing Santiago Gonzalez and David Marrero on Sunday.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will play for his first ATP World Tour title in 17 months on Sunday at the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament in Rotterdam. The Frenchman knocked out 2014 champion Tomas Berdych on Saturday, ousting the fourth seed 6-3, 6-4 in 72 minutes. The victory also marks a milestone 400^th win for the 31 year old.

After taking the first set with a single break of serve, Tsonga secured another break to start the second set when Berdych made three unforced errors and sailed a forehand wide on break point. The Frenchman cruised the rest of the way, never facing a break point in the match.

Tsonga, a finalist here in 2011, will face third seed David Goffin or French qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert in Sunday’s final. It will be Tsonga’s 24^th tour-level final and fifth at the ATP World Tour 500 level. The 6’2” right-hander last captured an ATP World Tour title in September 2015 when he beat countryman Gilles Simon for his third Metz title.

Tsonga fell in the Erste Bank Open 500 final in Vienna last October to Andy Murray, who was on his way to becoming year-end No. 1 in the Emirates ATP Rankings.

After enjoying plenty of junior success, French teenager Corentin Moutet is ready to show off his rapidly improving game at the pro level.

Competing at this week’s $50,000 ATP Challenger Tour event in Cherbourg, France, the 17 year old came through qualifying to reach his first Challenger quarter-final. Moutet defeated Jeremy Jahn of Germany in the opening round and then scored the biggest win of his young career over Canadian Steven Diez, currently No. 173 in the Emirates ATP Rankings.

Although he lost on Friday to fellow Frenchman Kenny De Schepper, Moutet is taking plenty of positives from this week.

“I’m so happy to be in a Challenger quarter-final for the first time. It means a lot to me,” said Moutet. “I’ve played five great matches and had my best victory against a player in the Top 200. I want to continue to improve and be more regular in my work, putting 100 per cent into all of my matches.”

Moutet primarily compared in ITF Futures events last year, winning two tournaments. Although he only plays sporadically in ITF Junior events, he stands at No. 12 in the ITF Junior Rankings due to outstanding results including reaching the boys’ singles semi-finals last month at the Australian Open.

But the young Frenchman is focused on a long pro career. After his outstanding run in Cherbourg, he hopes to soon become a regular fixture in Challenger events.

“Cherbourg is a great event with a great audience supporting all of the French players, so I’ve really been enjoying it a lot,” said Moutet. “I’ve mainly been playing Futures events and junior tournaments, so being able to compete in a Challenger is a great experience for me.”
