Seven #NextGenATP players have reached the Miami Open second round
The #NextGenATP contingent at the Miami Open presented by Itau have been embroiled in marathon first-round matches on Thursday.
Borna Coric remains unbeaten against World No. 41 Marcel Granollers in their FedEx ATP Head2Head at 3-0, following a gruelling two hours and 51 minutes victory. The Croatian won their last encounter in three sets at the 2016 Aircel Chennai Open and required another deciding set in Miami during a 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-3 win.
However, two #NextGenATP players fell to narrow defeats in deciding tie-breaks. Diego Schwartzman moved into the second round of the Miami Open for the first time, but he needed two-and-a-half-hours to navigate past Karen Khachanov 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4). The Argentine will next face 2013 finalist David Ferrer.
South Korean Hyeon Chung was edged 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(1) by World No. 66 Damir Dzumhur, whose reward is a second round match against Nick Kyrgios.

In contrast, Andrey Rublev needed only 44 minutes to dismiss World No. 46 Florian Mayer 6-1, 6-1. The #NextGenATP teenager won 90 per cent of points on first serve to book a match against 2010 Miami finalist Tomas Berdych.
#NextGenATP qualifier Frances Tiafoe defeated Konstantin Kravchuk for the second time in a fortnight. The American won in the first round of the Irving Challenger last week, and despite squandering two match points, was able to complete a 7-5, 5-7, 6-1 triumph in Miami. The 19 year old will next face two-time champion Roger Federer on Saturday.
#NextGenATP German Alexander Zverev will tackle the challenge presented by Yen-Hsun Lu in the second round after he ousted Casper Ruud 6-2, 6-1 earlier on Thursday.

Miami Open presented by Itau – Florida, United States
Customers at the Juan Valdez Cafe in Downtown Miami were given a pleasant surprise during their rush hour coffee run. Miami Open presented by Itau top seed Stan Wawrinka was on hand to serve customers with an early morning caffeine fix ahead of his quest for the title.
Doubles pairing Bruno Soares and Jamie Murray were joined by Joao Sousa on Crandon Park beach. The trio were put through their paces in a game of foot volley as they basked in the Miami sunshine.
Roger Federer turned his skills to mixing music Wednesday night in Miami during a party for Moët & Chandon at Sugar, a rooftop bar 40 stories up at EAST, Miami hotel. Federer teamed with renowned DJ Nora En Pure, who has a South African and Swiss heritage like the 25-time ATP World Tour Masters 1000 champion.
#NextGenATP players Casper Ruud, Michael Mmoh, Hyeon Chung, Mikael Ymer, Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov visited the beach ahead of the Miami Open. The rising stars of the game took time out from their preparations to take in the views by the Cape Florida Lighthouse.
Latino players Pablo Cuevas, Diego Schwartzman and Thomaz Bellucci took part in the Hispanic Media Day. The trio headed to the iconic Rusty Pelican restaurant for some spectacular views at Key Biscayne.
Spaniards Roberto Bautista Agut and Pablo Carreno Busta enjoyed a taste of the TV world. Agut went onto the Camilo show at CNN en Espanol, while Carreno Busta was a guest at Univision on Contacto Deportivo.
American No. 1 Jack Sock and Grigor Dimitrov were kept busy on Kids’ Day at the Crandon Park Tennis Center. The duo managed to entertain a group of kids by taking part in some on court activities.
David Ferrer managed to find time to meet the ball kids and the dedicated volunteers at the Miami Open.

• DAY 2 PREVIEW: There are 16 first round singles matches in the top half of the Miami Open presented by Itau draw on Thursday’s schedule. Six of the 11 #NextGenATP players in the tournament are in action, leading off with 20-year-old Croat Borna Coric against Spaniard Marcel Granollers in the first men’s match on Stadium. In the next match on, #NextGenATP qualifier Frances Tiafoe plays Konstantin Kravchuk for the second straight week. Tiafoe defeated the Russian 61 64 in the 1R at the Irving, Texas Challenger last week. The 19-year-old Tiafoe was one of five Americans to qualify into the tournament. Kravchuk is looking for his first ATP World Tour match win of the season (0-6). In the evening session, Brazilian wild card Thomaz Bellucci takes on Stephane Robert of France.
On Grandstand, former World No. 5 Tommy Robredo takes on the top player from Georgia, Nikoloz Basilashvili, who is off to a career-best 10-6 start, highlighted by a runner-up in Memphis and SF in Sofia. In the next match on, 20-year-old #NextGenATP star Karen Khachanov plays Diego Schwartzman of Argentina for the first time. Khachanov is the top Russian in the Emirates ATP Rankings at No. 52. Last month he broke the Top 50. In the next men’s match on, Aussie Bernard Tomic looks to break a five-match losing streak against qualifier Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan. In the evening match, Alexandr Dolgopolov, who captured his third career ATP World Tour title in Buenos Aires last month (d. No. 5 Nishikori), plays Malek Jaziri of Tunisia. Jaziri is coming off a career-best ATP Masters 1000 4R result in Indian Wells.
